Along the way, SVS has witnessed many connections form. Many of you have gone on to form your own groups, organise your own tournaments, and non-stop posting video on Instagram... many of us improve our volleyball skills over the years.

So, I thought...

It’s finally time to gather everyone together and put all that practice to the test! 😂

However, I don't want this to become a super rigid or overly serious tournament. I want as many of us as possible to join, have fun, and spend a proper day playing volleyball together. So, compared to many of the tournaments you may have joined before, this one will be much more casual and gathering-oriented.

The main purpose is simple:

Get everyone together, play lots of volleyball, and enjoy a bigger SVS game day. That's why I'm calling this a Gathering-Style Tournament!

The two courts will operate completely independently during the Final Stage, with each court producing its own 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams.

With so many volleyball tournaments out there, SVS hopes to bring something a little different to our players. By keeping the two courts independent, everyone gets a meaningful chance to compete for a podium finish, and hopefully, everyone will leave with some great memories, and maybe even a medal to remember the day by! 🏐🏅

• At least one member of each team must be an active SVS member or someone who used to be active in SVS.

• Priority will be given to players who have been active SVS members. We may refer to our Reclub history when determining priority.

• Registration is NOT on a first-come, first-served basis. SVS admins reserve the right to review and approve team registrations based on the criteria above.

• Priority registration last day on 31 August 2026. Registration will open to everyone else from 1 September 2026, subject to remaining slots.

• Each team may have a maximum of 12 players.

• There must be at least TWO female players on court at all times.

• There is no limit on the number of female players per team. Teams are welcome to have more than two female players, including an all-female team, if they wish.

• This tournament is strictly for Casual / Intermediate players. If you are currently or were previously part of SUKMA, a national team, or a comparable high-level competitive programme, please sit this one out. We want to keep the playing level enjoyable and balanced for everyone.

• There will be a total of 8 teams, divided into 2 groups/courts.

Special Arrangement

• We will reserve one team slot for individual players who are interested in joining but are unable to form their own team. If we have around 8 players in this situation, we can group them together to form a team, subject to everyone’s agreement.

• This event is also supported by two other volleyball groups, and each group will have one reserved team slot as well.

1. Proper volleyball rotation must be followed throughout the tournament.

2. Games 1–8: First to 25 points, with no deuce.

3. 3rd Place Match & Grand Final: 25–25–15 format, with deuce available.

4. Players are not allowed to block a female player’s spike.

5. Please respect the referees, line judges, and other teams.

6. Any form of prejudice, disrespect, unsportsmanlike behaviour, or deliberately looking down on another team may result in immediate disqualification.

7. To extend from #6, this includes deliberately withholding effort or playing below your normal level in a match for the purpose of conserving energy when your team has already secured its position, as this may unfairly affect the other team’s chances.

At the moment, I will try to cut the cost so that each team fee is around RM300 or below.

The final amount will be confirmed once we know the cost of:

• Medals

• Food / drinks for referees

• Food / drinks for line judges

• Any other necessary tournament expenses

I think this is pretty reasonable considering that every team is guaranteed at least four 25-point games, plus one 25–25–15 match if they progress to the Final / 3rd Place Match.

Most importantly, you're not just paying for a tournament. You're paying for a whole day of volleyball, catching up with old friends, meeting new people, and getting everyone back on court together. ❤️

Why Am I Organising This

With so many tournaments being organised by other clubs and societies, I selfishly wanted to organise one that isn’t really about competition, but simply about getting everyone together again.

SVS has been pretty quiet for the past few years. I wish I could have done more, but life has always seemed to be on hard mode. 😂

I feel like this year is the right time to bring everyone together again, so I don’t want to delay it any longer.

A special thank you to Ivan, CK and Darryl, who have been SVS admins without always receiving the recognition they deserve. They’ve been some of the key pillars keeping SVS alive all these years. 

Also, a big thank you to Highfly and Volleyball Socials KL for helping with the planning and execution of this event! 

So, What Does This Tournament Mean?

I’d like to explain the core values of this event through its name:

SVS — Our usual style. Co-ed games, and everyone is welcome!

Mini — Small and manageable. 4 teams per group/court.

In-House — SVS players get priority. Hehe.

Gathering-Style — It should feel more like a gathering than a “may the best team win” tournament.

Tournament — A chance to see how much everyone has improved since the last time we played together.

This Is Not Your Typical Tournament

This tournament is intentionally designed a little differently from the usual competitive format.

We want:

• Every team to play the same number of matches throughout the day.

• Every team to play against each other at least once within their group.

• Nobody to be sent home early after just a few matches.

• Nobody to be completely doomed from the beginning because they drew a much stronger team.

• Everyone to have a meaningful chance to enjoy the entire day.

The main reason to join should be:

“Eh, long time no see! Let’s see what you can do after so long!” 😂

I want people to walk away from the tournament feeling that they had a great day playing volleyball with old friends, new friends, and familiar rivals — regardless of where they finished.

What About Winning?

Of course, there will still be a champion. There will still be matches, scores, semifinals and finals.

But winning is not the main purpose of this tournament.

Someone also pointed out a possible issue with Semi-Final Draw Scenario D: Team B might feel that the situation is unfair because Team A is already guaranteed a place in the final and therefore doesn’t need to push as hard, while Team B has to work harder to get there.

That’s a fair observation, and it’s something I understand.

But at the same time, I want to be very clear about the philosophy behind this tournament:

The goal isn’t simply to win first place. The goal is to give your best when you’re playing against your friends and rivals.

If you’re the type of person who wants to win at all costs, optimise every advantage and cares primarily about getting that #1 spot — this probably isn’t the tournament for you.

But if your mindset is:

“I haven’t played with these people in ages. Let’s give it our all and see how much we’ve improved.”

Then I think you’ll enjoy this tournament.

At the end of the day, I hope we can all play hard, laugh a lot, catch up with one another, and leave the court feeling that it was worth coming back together.

That’s what I want SVS to be again. ❤️

1.⁠ ⁠Team Attire

Each team should prepare their own jersey or wear a clearly identifiable team colour. A visible player number is mandatory for referee identification.

Liberos may wear a different colour/colour tone from the rest of the team. If a team does not have a uniform jersey or clearly identifiable team colour, no libero will be allowed.

2.⁠ ⁠Substitution

Substitutions are on a player-to-player basis. Once paired, the two players may only substitute for each other during that game.

A substitute who enters the court and subsequently leaves may not re-enter the same game.

3.⁠ ⁠Player Roles

Roles may be changed between games, provided the appropriate colour requirements are followed.

4.⁠ ⁠Scoring by Female Players

We have considered the suggestion of awarding 2 points for a score by a female player. However, to ensure fairness and consistency for all teams, every score will be worth 1 point regardless of gender.

1. Male players may not block female players hit or tip. Any such block will be considered a fault, with 1 point awarded to the opposing team. Female players may block other female players.
